Over the years we have read and listened to many financial “experts” there are many different approaches to take control of your financial situation. The #1 thing that everyone needs to do is have a budget that determines where your money goes every month before the month starts.

You have to determine the life & lifestyle that you want to lead. We can’t tell you what’s best for you however we can help you on a path that will serve as a solid financial foundation to help you take control of your future.

WHere Does Your money Go?

Go through your bank & credit cards statements and highlight your must have items; rent, car, insurance, groceries etc.

How much do you make?

Each month how much do you have to spend? Remember you spend your net paycheck not your gross income from your job.

Put your budget in Place

Know where the money goes before the start of the month.

What should your budget look like?

  • Housing - 25% to 30% - for rent or mortgage

  • Utilities - 8% - electric, gas, garbage, cell phone, internet

  • Transportation - 10% to 15% - car payment, repairs, insurance

  • Food / Groceries - 10% to 15%

  • Health Care - 5% to 10%

  • Personal / Entertainment / Recreation - 5% to 10%

  • Savings - 10% to 20%

Rule of Thumb Budgeting

50 / 20 /30 rule

50% for your NEEDS,

20% Savings for your future &

30% towards your Wants.

Emergency Fund

Save $1000 as quickly as possible if you need to put it in a zip lock bag and make a money ice cube - the idea is that you don’t touch it until you need it. This money is for an emergency; car repair, medical bill, etc.

Pay off all debt

Debt is dumb… as someone that had over $100K in credit cards debt. Pay it down and pay it off. Create a debt snowball… look up Dave Ramsey Debt Snowball for more direction.

Put Money in The bank

Once your debt is gone… save 3 to 6 months worth of your expenses in a savings account. This money is your freedom fund - this give you options that most people never have.

Freedom is Simple not easy

Once you handle the items above you are now on track to own a home again (if you choose), fund your retirement, take time off, travel, learn and give yourself options to live life your way.

This path is very simple… but not easy because you have to be willing to say “NO”… I don’t need that Starbucks, I don’t need more clothes, I don’t need a brand new car. Let’s no go out and eat.

Having a clear vision of what you want for your life is how you get through the “NO’s”.

What do you want your life to look like?
